Cultivating Community Dinner Series

JUNE 2022

Held at the Williamsburg urban farm, Oko Farms, and in partnership with Chef Omar Tate, Bombay Bramble launched Cultivating Community: a dinner series in support of Black famers. The dinner celebrated a network of Black farmers, their produce, and the culture it quite literally feeds. Centered around the values of ancestry and reclamation, the dinner educated and nourished guests with a poem told through food.

A sensorial dining experience with an unparalleled view, The Gathery created a narrative that highlighted the brand’s visual identity and celebrated our chef and farm partners, guests were greeted by a Bombay Bramble bar where specialty cocktails were served and self-curated the playlist from a collection of Chef Omar’s favorite records. Following cocktail hour, guests gathered at a long communal table flanking the farm’s apiary while the band Island Interlude took stage. Adorned with fresh produce from black farms, the table integrated an artful combination of poetry and textile, basket weaving and metal work which underlies the food experience. A printed menu designed as a series of poems, seemingly torn from the spine of a book echoed the rough edges of the table design itself. Most central to the design was the plate itself, a series of black plates which made each dish served the star under the dark urban sky.

As the sun set across the East River, guests were encouraged to take home the centerpiece produce, further celebrating each farm and extending the community.
